XXXI Garda Optimist Meeting - Pre-registration opens online

The XXXI Garda Optimist Meeting is set to take place from the 28th -31st March at Fraglia Vela Riva, Riva del Garda. Last year this regatta became a Guinness World Record by being the largest single-class regatta in the world with 1055 actual participants, (who had completed at least one regatta). You can already pre- register by linking to the site fragliavelariva.it and it is quite possible that the number of registrations could even exceed last year's number.
Also scheduled at Fraglia Vela Riva from the 15th -26th July are the World Optimist Championships in which five athletes will be entered from each nation (50 countries are expected). Some teams will select their athletes during the Garda Optimist Meeting,( also known as The Easter Meeting), as they will be racing on the same regatta course that will be used in the World Championships.
This 31st edition will be especially important and will no doubt have a high technical level. Among the new ideas in 2013 is direct web in streaming which will carry the event all over the world through the internet and will allow many happy parents to participate virtually in the event. Meanwhile the organisational machine at Fraglia Vela Riva is up and running ensuring that the season gets off to a great start with dozens of volunteers, members and professionals in the field ready on hand for the first event. It will certainly be a wonderful festival for the youngest of sailors who often show great determination and technical skill that makes us all envious!
