The Workforce Marine Mumm 30 Australian Championship is set to take place February 24-26 with racing being conducted at Pittwater by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Eight boats will battle it out for the title of Mumm 30 Australian Champion 2006.

Winner of the 2005 Mumm 30 Nationals, Victorian Bruce Eddington’s Kato will be racing along with Chris Way, Stuart Bancroft, Guy Holbert and Dennis Thomas from New South Wales. Racing will be tight in this competitive one design class with crews playing chess on water as they strategise their racing moves. Entries representing four of Australia’s seven states, from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania will be travelling to race in this event.

Alex Douglas will be travelling from Queensland with his boat Synergy, to participate. Douglas is racing on a replacement boat after losing his previous Mumm 30 in a freak accident in 2004 when a multihull was thrown onto his and another boat during a devastating windstorm in Manly in Queensland’s capital city Brisbane. Fellow Queenslander Colin Loel will also travel from Brisbane to Pittwater to race this weekend.

Tasmanian Steven Harrison will tow his boat the 1000 plus kilometres to join fellow class members in a bid to take the Mumm 30 National Champion title to the apple isle.

Sponsored by Workforce Marine this event will become part of the Mumm 30 class circuit for Australia with other class one design events planned over the next 12 months. ‘We are looking forward to some close one design racing this weekend. Having eight boats racing is great and we are looking forward to seeing more boats in class racing in the future,’ commented Stuart Broom from Workforce Marine.
