Women's International MR Series - Opportunity for Infinity Racing

Claudia Pierce updates on the latest news from the NZ womens match racing team, Infinity Racing:

It has been a very busy summer for Infinity Racing so far with two regattas in Australia prior to Christmas and two in Auckland run at our home club - Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. These have all been very successful regattas for the team and have meant they are now ranked 46th in the world women’s match racing rankings (Feb 2013 rankings).

Infinity Racing is a new team of young female sailors formed to pursue success on the Women’s International Match Racing circuit and other sailing competitions.

The team consists of Skipper Claudia Pierce (20), Janelle Peat (21), Marie Kent (20), Paige Cook (20), Hannah Osborne (20) and Holly Hamlin (18).

Because of their rapid rise through the rankings the world association has invited them to compete in the Women's International Match Racing Series, a string of regattas in France, Korea, Denmark, New York & Sweden. This is a huge honour and fantastic opportunity for the team and they are now in training and fund-raising mode for April, including a training regatta here in Auckland, to make it over to the first event happening 15th of May in St Quay, France.

None of this would have been possible without the fabulous support of their current sponsors: David Kimpton, Yachting Developments, Superyacht Interiors NZ, 5+ a day and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. They would like to say a huge thank-you to them for helping us get as far as they have got, as we know it is tough at the current time to support sports teams but they are so grateful for their input.

Infinity Racing is now on the hunt for support and sponsors to get them through the 2013 season as it is quite a step up from last year’s campaign. They will also be holding pub quiz and movie night fund-raisers this month to help cover the costs, so stay tuned for dates as they would love to see you join them for some great evening fun.

They are determined to make it to the whole series, run over four months, in five different countries, so if you know anyone that may be able to assist in any way please pass this on so Infinity Racing have the best chance of success.
