Winners of Bellingham International Marina Scholarships

Both winners of the Bellingham International Marina Education Scholarships have now been announced - and congratulations are in order for Michael Glanville, Area Manager from Marina Developments Ltd (MDL) is the UK winner and Craig Evans, the Executive Officer of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia, is the Australian winner.

These scholarships enable the winners to travel to the other side of the globe to participate in a six day Advanced Marina Management (AMM) course that is recognised by the Global Marina Institute (GMI). These scholarships are a world first within the international marina industry.

The British Marine Federation (BMF) has announced that Michael Glanville, Area Manager from Marina Developments Ltd (MDL) is the UK winner of the Bellingham Scholarship. Michael is currently the MDL Area Manager for the Hamble and Cheshester region and Marina Manager at Northney Marina, Hayling Island UK.

Michael will join 13 other participants in the Marina Industries Association of Australia (MIAA) AMM course being held at Port Stephens in New South Wales 18-23 September 2011. Another feature of the scholarship is the opportunity for the winner to stay in the country and participate in work experience at a local marina.

The MIAA winner of the Bellingham Scholarship was announced at the recent International Marina Conference and Exhibition held in Melbourne. Craig Evans will participate in the BMF AMM course being held 26 February- 2 March 2012 in Poole, UK. Craig is the Executive Officer of the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia.

MIAA President Andrew Chapman said these first ever international education scholarships reflect the growing importance and professionalism the world’s marina industry and the industries recognition of the importance of quality industry education under the GMI banner. 'The industry is indebted to Bellingham Marine for enabling this international exchange of leading marina managers. The initiative will assist the sharing of best practice ideas across the globe.'

Bellingham Marine Australian Manager John Spragg said Bellingham understand the importance of marina education.

'Bellingham has a long history of supporting the development and professionalism of the marina industry across the world. Further development of quality courses and the sharing of information across continents through these scholarships is another initiative we are proud to be associated with.'
