Steven David's Wild Joe crossed the Pittwater finish line between West Head and Barrenjoey at 8:11:12 , to take line honours in the Pittwater to Pittwater via Port Stephens and Botany Bay race.

The elapsed time for the 210nm race was 20hrs 11mins 12 secs.

Soon after crossing the line Steven David told Sail-World ‘We are happy to take the win. We have another race record but we don’t want to defend it.

‘We had a fast start in the north easter and we held that all the way to Port Stephens, 10-11 knots average we saw 14 a couple of times but that was it, then it was pretty fluky.

‘When we rounded Boondelbah Island we had a light wind, still a north easter around nine knots. We were able to set a spinnaker and held that until we were abeam of Pittwater.

‘Then under the influence of the land breeze we two-sail reached down to Botany Bay.

‘We entered Botany Bay at 5am under a seven knot westerly; it was quiet there, no planes. There was a pilot vessel coming out and a container vessel waiting to go in.

‘We had a good run back up to Pittwater with around 10 knots of breeze for most of the way.

‘We were off Manly when we saw Spirit of Queensland heading south.

‘We’ve never finished a race in Pittwater. We can't get the boat over the bar so she is on an anchor in Refuge Bay and we are on a powerboat back to the Club.

'It was disappointing not to going to Coffs Harbour, we always enjoy it but we support the decision make by organisers.

'We were here to race and we were not going to pull out.’

Spirit of Queensland is expected to finish within the next hour.
