North Sails has completed the first 3Di inventory for Camper – and while details remain under wraps, the big focus is on weight minimisation.

Andrew Lechte is in New Zealand to work closely with Emirates Team New Zealand head designer Burns Fallow on the Emirates Team New Zealand Volvo campaign. Andrew designed sails for the past three Volvo Ocean Races with teams from Sweden and Spain, and for America’s Cup teams in five cup cycles with teams from Japan, Sweden and France.
He says that the team is very pleased with a robustness of the predominantly 3Di sails.
'Because it is a brand new technology, the big concern for design is still whether they will make it around the world. But it looks like already they are performing beyond our expectations, and further refinements are being made down the weight path.'
Following the impressive performance of 3Di in the Barcelona World Race, where Virbac-Paprec 3 circumnavigated without sail failure to win the race, all six entrants in the Volvo Ocean Race have committed to using 3Di sails. Additionally Hugo Boss has also returned to North Sails, and Alex Thompson ordered that his next sails be 3Di.
