Volvo Ocean Race - Classic leg ahead of Team SCA

Team SCA - Volvo Ocean RAce Team SCA
After just a little more than a week of rest and preparation in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, the classic leg across the Atlantic lies ahead of Team SCA and the other five boats in Volvo Ocean Race.
There are only 16-17 days of offshore sailing left in the race, but still one third of the points to compete for.
“This leg is more of a sprint, which means we will have to push even harder. But for sure we want to stay in sight of the others to the end this time,” says skipper Sam Davies
“We sailed more or less this same course this time last year. It was the first time we sailed together as an all-female team and the first time I was skipper so it was a big milestone in our campaign.”
“The North Atlantic is dangerous, it is rough and anything can happen. We had structural issues with our boat last time so it is a reminder that the North Atlantic can throw up some challenges and I am sure this time it will be no different.”
Compared to the previous legs the 2,800 nautical mile Atlantic crossing will take around eight-nine days. Nevertheless it’s a very tough leg where the teams can expect very cold conditions, rough seas and strong winds and it has historically proved to be one of the most challenging legs of previous Volvo Ocean Races.
As continuation of the Team SCA crew rotation, Stacey Jackson, Annie Lush will be rested for this leg with Sara Hastreiter and Elodie Mettraux stepping back onboard.
Anna-Lena Elled will replace Corinna Halloran as the OnBoard Reporter.
Leg 7 starts on Sunday, May 17 from Newport, RI, USA and will finish in Lisbon Portugal on about May 25-26.
