The second Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week has just concluded and competitors, their families and spectators deemed the event a great success.

Regattas rely heavily on volunteers and this year the volunteer crew from the Townsville Cruising Yacht Club did an outstanding job. Sheer hard work goes into organising regattas and Sunferries Magnetic Island Race week is no exception. For many months the TCYC crew sacrificed their time to organise boats, crew and equipment as well as dealing with the general logistics of how the week was going to be run.

The volunteers were committee members from the TCYC but also club members, family and friends of the sailors.

Regatta Director Denis Thompson remarked 'the event volunteers deserve high praise for the enthusiasm, professionalism and devotion. The local sailing community has worked hard to make this event the success that it is.’

Peppers Blue on Blue Resort on Magnetic Island played host to race headquarters for the week, as well as providing the Media Centre and facilities.

Blue on Blue is a unique location, with the beauty of Magnetic Island surrounding it. The marina is literally a stroll away from the main restaurant, pool area and conference facilities, making it an ideal location for social functions.

Everyone agrees that the second Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week was a huge success and competitors enjoyed good racing in a great location, with a strong sense on camaraderie. Off water, the social functions provided a great place to relax and wind down after the days racing.

New images are being uploaded to the gallery so be sure to check the website www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au regularly.

The third Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week is from the 4th to 8th September 2009. Mark you calendars now and interested skippers register online to receive your DVD of this year’s event.
