Video Footage of the Soling Final Denmark versus Germany

The Soling Match Racing final between Denmark's Jesper Bank and Germany's Jochen Schuemann was watched by large crowds at the Opera House on 30th September 2000.

The race was a close run contest to the very end where the gold medal was decided on the final run of the final race.

Schuemann lost gold in the last run when he had the ultimate penalty. He waited until the last minute to make his turn hoping that he could keep Bank back far enough. But it didn't work out. The crowd was holding its breath when Denmark's Jesper bank surfed to his second gold medal in that nail biting finish Schuemann got silver.

Final result Denmark 4 Germany 3.

On occasion, tension during the pre-start was heightened with the race committee’s decision to start a number of races under a black flag, meaning any boat over the line at the start would be disqualified from the race.

The organizers decided to cancel Sunday’s race following the collision of a press RIB and Malizia - Yacht Club de Monaco Although there were no regattas on Sunday, the Norauto team still went out to train, concluding more than 10 days of continuous sailing aboard their foiling catamaran, which was just as exhilarating as it was demanding.

Safety first at the GC32 Malcesine Cup after media RIB collision
A safety group within the GC32 Class Association has been set up to improve safety procedures for future GC32 regattas. Following the collision of Malizia - Yacht Club de Monaco and a press RIB on Friday, the Fraglia Vela Malcesine and the GC32 International Class Association did not reach an agreement over the liability for the final day of racing.

Team Tilt beats rival Norauto after intense race at GC32 Malcesine Cup
Conditions proved challenging for the 10-strong fleet with nine races completed over the course of Thursday and Friday. Team Tilt, led by Arnaud Psarofaghis, won the second stage of the GC32 Racing Tour in Malcesine on Lake Garda in Italy “To finish ahead of these big teams is a really good result for us!” said crew member and Emirates NZ skipper Glenn Ashby. “The team manages the boat very well; their Decision 35 experience really paid off here.'

Domination of Norauto at the GC32 Racing Tour finally comes to an end
In the first regatta of the season at nearby Riva del Garda, Team Tilt finished second, 13 points behind Norauto. After winning May’s GC32 Riva Cup and the opening day of the GC32 Malcesine Cup yesterday, Franck Cammas and Norauto’s domination of the GC32 Racing Tour finally came to an end today. The Swiss crew, which included ETNZ's skipper Glenn Ashby, on Team Tilt put in an exception performance to end the second day of competition one point ahead of the Volvo Ocean Race winner’s French team.
