Victorian Moth Grand Prix Series Round 1
by Leigh Dunstan on 24 Oct 2011
KA Sails Victorian Moth Grand Prix round one, included as part of the McRae Yacht Club's Open Day, was held on Saturday the 22nd October. It wasn't the greatest weather, with some rain and winds light and variable, but most importantly there was good racing.

The Moth fleet had a turn out of eight Moths which wasn't too bad for the first round of the season. It was one of those days where you could be drifting along at 1-2 knots and someone is smoking along behind you on the foils doing well over 12 knots, only for the roles to be reversed two minutes later.
Andrew McDougall sailed well up the first beat to take the lead early. By the top mark the top three held their positions for the rest of the race, even with the enormous shifts and conditions that meant some were foiling and some weren't, depending where they were on the race track. Andrew McDougall sailed his brand new Mach 2 to a convincing win. Richard Jackson did well to take second, sailing well in the very shifty conditions, only metres ahead of Leigh Dunstan in third and Sam England close behind in fourth.
Thanks to McRae Yacht Club for hosting the first round of the KA Sails Victorian Grand Prix with round two to be held on the 19th November at Mornington Yacht Club, the location for the upcoming 2012 Nationals Titles.
Thanks again to KA Sails and Racer X Marine for supporting the event.
