Veteran Whitsunday Sailing Club members Charles Wallis and Seddon Cripps have had an early return on their re-investment in their MBD42 Reignition when they sailed today to overall victory in the Performance Racing division of the Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week.
Wallis originally owned the boat when it was called Flame (hence the new name) and recently he and Cripps bought it back an auction in Brisbane and give it new life.
‘We’ve only had it back a few weeks and we’ve had to do a lot work on the boat, but she is sound and suitable for Whitsunday sailing,’ Cripps said.
Reignition’s corrected time placing in today’s final race on Pioneer Bay gave the boat an overall score of 30 points from placings of 11-2-3-13dh-1-8-5, with second overall going to another local Damian Suckling with his Farr designed Another Fiasco from Abel Point Yacht Club on 33 points (3-9-13-4-5-12-1).
Third overall was the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s Tim Osborne in Rising Farrst on 33.5 points (2-15-1-7.8dh-6-9).
Early pointscore leader, Fahrenheit, skippered by Andy Muirhead from Townsville Cruising Yacht Club, had his worst race, a 14th today, to finish fifth overall.
