Vendee Globe - Following three weeks of summer work, Akena Vérandas was launched back at sea and equipped with her keel on Tuesday, before getting her mast back on Thursday in Les Sables d’Olonne. 'Everything went well,' Arnaud Boissières said. The skipper – who is about to enjoy a few days of rest – will be back at the end of August for technical test sailings and public relation campaigns.
The Akena Vérandas Team will also take part in training camps organised by the Finistère Offshore Racing team in Port-la-Forêt, France, in September.
After a week of rest, Cheminées Poujoulat skipper Bernard Stamm has started the last part of his preparation before the Vendée Globe start. The Swiss sailor’s entire team has been working hard under project engineer Gautier Levisse’s supervision. Many different tasks are scheduled. Three members of the Kaïros Team will be removing and then putting back all the mechanical parts of the boat. Besides, the team bustled about fixing some areas which had been damaged during the Europa Warm’Up.
Some stratification work needed to improve the sail plan - putting in a new u-bolt - was carried out, as well as the installation of the hydro generator supports. The ergonomics of the boat interior has also evolved. In the end of the week, the outside of the yacht will be painted before the finishing touch to the electronics is put. The boat will be back at sea on Wednesday, August Vendee Globe website
