Children trying their hand at fishing these school holidays have a greater chance of landing their first catch, thanks to Victorian Coalition Government stockings of catchable size rainbow trout. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Peter Walsh said Fisheries Victoria is stocking nearly 30,000 catchable size trout into 66 lakes over the September holiday period. These stockings include 1,000 catchable size trout into each of Albert Park Lake and Casey Fields Lake in Cranbourne, along with 300 into Navan Park Lake in Melton. These three waters will also share an extra 2,000 catchable size trout to be stocked next month. 'Stocking catchable size fish encourages children to get out and have a go at fishing these school holidays and hopefully experience the excitement of their first catch,' Mr Walsh said. Stocking will be completed by 30 September, complementing trout stocked previously in the July 2012 holidays. Mr Walsh said 10,000 extra trout had been released into the Eildon Pondage for the Goulburn Fishing Festival last month and would continue to provide good fishing for Eildon visitors through until Christmas. Devilbend Reservoir on the Mornington Peninsula will receive 5,000 catchable sized rainbow trout and 5,000 brown trout to coincide with its public opening later this year. 'Victorian anglers have been enjoying terrific trout fishing in many formerly drought affected lakes over winter, thanks in large part to drought recovery stockings in 2010 and 2011 that were funded by fishing licence fees,' Mr Walsh said.
