Três equipes da Volvo Ocean Race disputam regata nas Ilhas Canárias

Team SCA, Team Brunel e a recém anunciada equipe espanhola testam suas embarcações neste sábado (19) na Round Canary Islands Race. Saiba mais da Volta ao Mundo no Dock Talk semanal.

Serão apenas 650 milhas, mas o suficiente para testar as embarcações para a Volvo Ocean Race. Team SCA, Team Brunel e a equipe espanhola participam da Round Canary Islands Race, uma regata que passa pelas sete ilhas ibéricas. A largada neste sábado (19) e a chegada serão na Marina Rubicon, em Lanzarote. A previsão é de três dias de prova.

O teste será importante para os times, principalmente para a campanha espanhola, que recentemente foi anunciada. O comandante Iker Martínez terá de correr contra o tempo em relação aos adversários e se adaptar ao barco Volvo Ocean 65. Para acelerar esse processo, os ibéricos terão a ajuda do especialista em vela oceânica Michel Desjoyeaux. O francês será o conselheiro da equipe. 'Será um grande desafio, pois sabemos que não temos muito tempo antes da primeira perna, que larga em em 11 de outubro', disse Iker Martínez, que comandou o Telefónica na edição 2011-12. 'Nós sabemos que estamos realmente pressionados. As outras equipes estão muito à frente em termos de preparação'.


O líder do Team Brunel, Bouwe Bekking, disse que a regata será importante para a equipe. 'Passamos dois meses bem ocupados na Holanda. Nosso foco foi apresentar a equipe para patrocinadores e para a comunidade. Todo mundo está feliz por voltar a velejar e otimizar o barco'.

O Team Alvimedica e o Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing estão cruzando o Atlântico de Newport, Rhode Island para o Reino Unido. Pelas regras, eles são proíbidos de competir na travessia, que é usada apenas como treino.

Enquanto os cinco rivais estão em atividade, o chinês Dongfeng fazem treinos de academia e outras atividades em terra. O campeão olímpico Thierry Peponnet (classe 470 em Seul-1988) é um dos consultores do time asiático. Volvo Ocean Race

America's Cup Defender christened "Taihoro"
