Just seven points separate the top five competitors in the Auckland Starling Championships, being sailed off Maretai Sailing Club, 15 miles east of Auckland.
Sixty competitors are racing the regatta which is led by Wellington sailor, George Gautrey (Muritai). He has turned the tables on Arkady Edmunds (Glendowie) who won the recent North Island Championships, sailed at Gautry's home club - he finished fifth in that regatta.
There is just a two point margin between the two, with Jeremy Mitchell (Murray's Bay) six points off the lead in third place, and then with a second Murray's Bay sailor, Liam Closely one point further back and tied with Sam Wallis (Wakatere) on 20 points.
Fresh sea breezes have prevailed for the two days of racing, with indications that there will be more of the same for the final day of racing.
