This week's product: Sailor's best friend - a BIG fender!

'StowAway Yacht Fenders - Four Sizes.JPG'    .
You never know when you might need a BIG fender.

It might be a fisherman trying to sell you fish, it could be a fuel dock in a storm, or maybe two friend boats want to raft on each side of you.

The reasons are myriad, but the result is the same - sometimes you just need MORE BIG FENDERS, and stowage is always the challenge.

That's where the idea of fenders that you can stow deflated nearby and then inflate in seconds when you need them will make life much easier when you're cruising.

The good thing about these Stowaway Boat Fenders is that while they are very heavy duty, and ruggedly constructed of PVC material, they are also lightweight. This makes handling big fenders an easy task for the weakest of crew members, and isn't that good for the short-handed cruising yacht!

The DACA Innovations product features fully reinforced seams, a recessed valve for rapid inflating and deflating and stainless steel D-Rings for attachment. Do make sure you purchase the heavy duty variety, particularly if you are doing more than lazy afternoon sailing.

They are available in four sizes – 10'x30', 12'x40', 15'x50' and 18'x60' and can be used on boats from 20 to 120 feet.

They can be purchased online and shipped to anywhere in the world. When you purchase the set of four, company spokesperson Bruce Nelson tells me that the foot pump comes free!

At prices ranging from US$99 to US$299 they are generally priced at or less than conventional fenders. Yet with StowAway Boat Fenders, you can keep as many fenders on board as you wish without taking up valuable storage space.

For information or to purchase online, go to the StowawayBoatFenders website, or email them at info [at] stowawayboatfenders.com
