Per Peterson’s Andrews 70, Alchemy, filed its entry this week for the 2008 Long Beach to Cabo San Lucas International Yacht Race, just making the entry deadline of Oct. 1 and setting the field at 10 boats for the 800-nautical mile run.

Other entries are Doug Baker’s Andrews 80, Magnitude 80; Mike Campbell and Dale Williams’ Kernan 70 Peligroso; Bob Lane’s Andrews 63, Medicine Man; Peter Tong’s Santa Cruz 70, OEX; Ed McDowell’s Santa Cruz 70, Grand Illusion; Brack Duker’s Santa Cruz 70, Holua; Ed Feo’s Andrews 45, Locomotion; Kevin Flanigan’s Fox 44, Ocelot and Chris Slagerman’s Peterson 68, Cheetah.

Late entries will be considered.

Starting Friday, Nov. 7 off the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier and ending at Cabo Falso located at the west end of Cabo San Lucas, the maxis will be chasing the race record of 3 days 3 hours 46 minutes 24 seconds set in 1985 by Blondie, one of the first Santa Cruz 70s built. Magnitude 80 missed breaking the record last year by only 57 minutes.

Ernie Richau, navigator for Mag 80, said after last year’s finish, 'We were a little disappointed we didn’t beat the race record but we didn’t quite get enough wind after the start or at the end. We’ll be back and try again next time.'

Well, they’re back for another shot at the record hoping this time the wind will cooperate.

Trophy presentations will be hosted by LBYC for all competitors Thursday evening, Nov.13 in Cabo San Lucas.

Race Entry Form, Notice of Race and additional information is available at: www.lbyc.org
