Team Maclaren came away with the ISAF Women's Match Racing World Cup title at the end of Kieler Woche.
Anna Tunnicliffe:
The World Cup series consists of seven events and teams are scored on their best five finishes, with one of them having to be outside Europe. The series starts in December in Melbourne, Australia, heads to the Miami, USA in January, before heading to Europe, with events in Palma (Spain), Hyeres (France), Medemblik (Holland), Weymouth (UK), and Kiel (Germany).
Teams score points if they finish within the top 20 overall. First place scores 20 points and 20th place scores one point. The team at the end of the series with the most points claims the overall title.
This year we had a very consistent string of top scores which gave us a 15 point lead over our training partners from Finland, Match Race Team Audi, and a 16 point lead our USSTAG teammates, Team Barkow. Our results for the year were a second place in Miami, third places in Palma and Holland, a first in Weymouth and a fifth place here in Kiel.
It was a great way to wrap up the season. We are very excited to have won as it was one of our goals coming into this year. With the ISAF World Cup now wrapped up, we will move our focus onto the first part of our trials in October and the World Championships following that in December. Our next event is the 2011 Stena Swedish Match Cup in Marstrand, Sweden starting on July 4th.
