Douglas Shepherd and his crew Josh Brown secured the International Cadet Australian Championships in Geelong. Sailing their Cadet Stolen Pig, the Tasmanian pair sailed well in the final two heats today with a ninth (drop) and a third in the final to cement their win with 25 points.
Fellow Sandy Bay Sailing Club members made up the top four positions, which also gave them the Tillett Teams Trophy. Pelorus (Tom Ransley and Katie Hudson) came in second on 31 points, Pour Quoi third (Thomas Kennedy and Ellie Chesterman) 48 points, and Douglas’s older sister Lucy fourth on Capricious with her crew Lydia Newton – 49 points.
Committee Chairman Bruce King congratulated all Cadets saying, 'Well done on a regatta which was raced in good spirit and sportsmanship with an atmosphere which was family friendly both on and off the water' He thanked all parents, friends and volunteers who supported the kids on the water, and continued by saying 'from the race committee, canteen ladies, radio monitors and on water volunteers a huge thanks for you support and commitment.'
