The Superyacht Australia Committee met late last week for their annual end of year meeting where the committee was elected for the 2014 year including election of the chairperson and the Superyacht Australia representative for the AIMEX Board.

This committee drives the strategy for Superyacht Australia ensuring very positive outcomes over the past year.

Barry Jenkins was re-elected to the position of chairperson and Murray Owen, MD of Marine Engineering Consultants was elected by the Superyacht Australia Committee as their representative on the AIMEX Board. Murray was an integral part of the previous SYBA board and brings with him a wealth of knowledge both in the marine export, commercial and superyacht sectors.

The Superyacht Australia committee comprises of one representative from each of the four regional clusters;Carrie Carter Chairperson Superyacht Group Great Barrier Reef, Mike Cippitelli Chairman Marine WA, Byron Rabone Chairman Superyachts Queensland and Richard Morris Executive Director NSW Superyacht Industry Association.

In addition to cluster representatives the AIMEX board appoints a number of Superyacht Australia corporate members to the committee to ensure broad representation of the superyacht industry, these representatives include Matthew Reaume MTU, Doug Jarvis City of Melbourne, Denis Maher BSE, Kane Bygrave Aurora Global Logistics and Deale Stanley-Hunt Awlgrip.

The operation of Superyacht Australia has seen excellent membership growth throughout the year. AIMEX has delivered an exceptional level of benefits to this industry sector including the launch of the first Superyacht Australia magazine, organisation of the very successful Tahiti Networking Event, launch of the industry capability document, introduction of Superyacht Industry Awards into the AIMEX awards programme including the reinvigoration of the industry Hall of Fame awards.

The ASMEX conference has cemented its position on the global industry events calendar with a strong programme of speakers, strong sponsorship support with some key brand names involved, a well organised format and the introduction of the gala dinner attracting close to 200 delegates making this a very prestigious and significant industry event.

Superyacht Australia is also excited by the new governments focus on removing barriers to business growth and the fact they see the marine sector as an important sector of the Australian economy.

Barry Jenkins Chairman stated 'We have a very strong programme of activities to pursue in 2014 with a key focus on pushing a review of the charter regulations. Along with AIMEX we will be putting some resources into supporting our members targeting the commercial side of the business. We also have our Asia trade mission coming up and we will be supporting the Asia Superyacht conference with an Australia delegation to showcase our capability to this region.'
