There were three races sailed on Sunday 29th January, in the 2012 Sunburst Nationals, being sailed at Wakatere Boating Club on Auckland's North Shore. The two morning races were sailed in nice steady conditions, with James Corbett and son Harrison having two race wins. Brett Linton and daughter Alice have held on with two second places. The afternoon race was sailed in blustery winds, gusting up to 25 knots at times. This has lead to a number of capsizes, lots of exciting rides and a few withdrawals with broken gear. One noticeable thing was how well the 7 Sea Scout and Young Mariner crews were handling the conditions in the afternoon race. Their boat handling skills have improved markedly over the course of the regatta. Brett and Alice Linton won the afternoon race with James and Harrison Corbett second, Andy Walker and Elizabeth Pitko were third. Places after 6 races , based on 5 counting and 1 drop : Brett and Alice Linton - Worser Bay - 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1 6 pts James Corbett and Harrison Switzer-Corbett - Wakatere - 3, 3, 3, 1, 1, 2 10 pts Nathan Long and William Long - Wakatere - 6, 2, 4, 3, 4, 9 19 pts Andy Walker and Elizabeth Pitko - Wakatere - 2, 8, 2, 8, 5, 3 20 pts Amanda Hargreaves and Amanda Young - Worser Bay - 4,5,17,7,3,7 26 pts Matt and Finn Buckeridge - Wakatere - 9, 7, 6, 4, 7, 8 32 pts Alastair Campbell and George Willcock - Worser Bay - 7, 4, 9, 11, 9, 4 33 pts Bruce Yarnton and Rhonda Steele - Wakatere - 15, 9, 7, 5, 6, 10 37 pts Kevin Whitehead and Jane Hawkins - Wakatere - 10, 6, 11, 9, 10, 6 41 pts Julia Faire and Linda Wilson - Wakatere - 5, 11, 10, 10, 8, 20 44 pts The seventh and final race will be sailed on Monday 30th January, and will also be an Auckland Anniversary Day regatta race.
