Thirteen teams are to compete Thursday to Sunday this week in the Steinlager 18ft Skiff ANZAC Regatta sailed out of the Auckland Sailing Club, Okahu Bay. It is going to be a true Trans-Tasman affair with four quality Australian based teams joining the current New Zealand fleet on their home waters.

The Steinlager ANZAC regatta is shaping up to be one of the strongest in New Zealand for many years, with four of the competing boats finishing in the top 8 at the recent JJ Giltinans in Sydney. On top of this, early weather forecasts are predicting small rig conditions for at least the first few days of the regatta which will make for exciting action.

This regatta will mark the continuation of the battle between Thurlow Fisher Lawyers (Aust.) and C-Tech (NZ) who finished third and fourth respectively on count back during the JJ Giltinans in Sydney earlier this year. Other top boats include Smeg (Aust. – fifth) and Yamaha (NZ – eighth) who will no doubt be mixing it with the top two throughout.

Racing is to start at 1pm each day on the Waitamata Harbour in clear view of Tamaki Drive, Devonport and North Head. A minimum of 2 races a day is scheduled and cold Steinlager Pure is on hand at the club for the after sailing debrief.

Thanks go to Steinlager, Harken, Fineline Ropes, North Sails and Maersk Line for their support of the regatta and the Auckland Sailing Club.
