St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2015 - Headboats, a boat for every budget

by St. Maarten Heineken Regatta on 7 Jan 2015
St. Maarten, Caribbean-March 6-9, 2014. Day one of the 34th Annual St. Maarten Heineken regatta got under way in a fresh 18 knots out of the East to Southeast. The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is a yacht race on the island of Sint Maarten, held every year. The Regatta is both named after its location and sponsor, the island of Sint Maarten and Heineken. St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2015 - Simpson Bay, St. Maarten - Many sailors would love to have the chance to race in the anniversary edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, but many are lacking one key element, a boat. This predicament occurs time and time again, but there is a surprisingly simple solution, a charter boat where you pay for your own individual spot, also called a headboat. Why not step aboard some of the oceans most exhilarating vessels? Pay for an individual spot and join a crew of sailors with one common desire, to win. There are a wide variety of headboats available for charter during the event, many of which can be found on the event website, and there are still spaces available.

The variety of sailboat choices and assortment of options allow for sailors of all budgets the chance to race. One available charter option is the Volvo 60 Cuba Libre, the ex 'Heineken' Whitbread 60 racer. This boat is available for whole charter or individual berths, depending on your budget. With a maximum crew of 18, this charter is sure to put your muscles to the test. Charter includes skipper and accommodation up to 12. Another Volvo 60 that is available for charter is Spirit of Adventure with three time round the world single handed racer Derek Hatfield. His story is legendary and to be able to sail the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta with him would be a dream come true.
Volvo 70 Monster Project, winner of the 2014 Fastest Spinnaker Around the Island and former participant of the 10th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race in 2008, is also up for charter. This Carbon Fiber hull can accelerate down wind at 25+ knots, and will leave you gasping for breath and certainly wanting more.

Looking for something a little more relaxing, but just as interesting? The elegant Kings Legend may just be right up your alley. This sloop rigged Swan 65 is an experience like no other. She was originally built in 1977 for the Whitbread around the world race of 1977, where she finished in second place.

A little less relaxing, but a fun and competitive option, is sailing on one of Global Yacht Racing's boats. Both EH01, a Beneteau 47.7 and Sunset Child, a J120, still have spaces available. These boats participate in regattas around the world and are regulars at the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. The knowledge of the skippers brings a highly competitive nature to the race, not just between the fleet but between the skippers as well. Scarlet Oyster, an Oyster Lightweight 48, belongs to this competitive group. In the past few years she has claimed top three positions in her class.

Regardless of your budget and experience there is a charter available for everyone. The first start is in less than 65 days so don't delay. Charter your winning spot on some of the world's most exciting boats available and join us in celebrating 35 years of Serious Fun.
