Solitaire du Figaro - Le dernier combat

C'est maintenant ou jamais. Malgré la fatigue accumulée pendant ces 17 jours de course, malgré les amertumes à peine digérées et au nom des espoirs toujours vivaces d'exceller à Dieppe, il va falloir tout donner dans cette quatrième étape. Ce sera un dernier combat de 520 milles (retour au parcours initial), très technique et musclé sur la fin. Départ demain jeudi à 13 heures.

La dernière étape de La Solitaire du Figaro - Eric Bompard cachemire n'est pas une étape comme les autres. Juste avant que le rideau ne tombe, elle est l'ultime scène où faire entendre sa voix. Chacun des 40 coureurs a quelque chose à y prouver. Pour les déçus de Porto, Gijón et Roscoff, elle recèle de nouveaux espoirs. Pour les hommes de tête, elle est celle de tous les risques. C'est pourquoi elle promet une régate magnifique dans les cailloux de la Bretagne nord, les courants du Four et du Raz de Sein, et dans la brise sous les côtes anglaises.

En tête avec 29 minutes et 56 secondes d'avance, Frédéric Duthil (Sepalumic) espère un scénario limpide jusqu'à Dieppe où l'occasion lui serait donnée de faire parler son expérience et sa maîtrise du bateau dans la brise. Ses poursuivants, de Morgan Lagravière (2e) à Fabien Delahaye (9e à 1h17), rêvent au contraire d'un tracé farci de chausse-trappes. De fait, ce 4e acte à destination de Dieppe a de quoi les réjouir. Le tracé est compliqué et la navigation sera technique, musclée, balisée par de nombreuses marques de parcours qui n'offriront que de rares opportunités pour se reposer.

Aujourd'hui, avec l'amélioration relative des conditions météorologiques annoncées en Manche (la dépression est moins virulente que prévu), la Direction de Course de La Solitaire a décidé de revenir au parcours initial de 520 milles. Côté météo, cette 4e étape sera soumise à un régime de vents de secteur ouest, mais avec de nombreuses fluctuations en direction et en force. Pour résumer : du près jusqu'à Ouessant (à laisser à bâbord) dans un vent d'ouest-nord-ouest modéré, puis, les spis sortiront des sacs jusqu'à la chaussée de Sein où il faudra opérer un virage en tête d'épingle. La remontée vers la Grande Basse de Portsall (à laisser à bâbord) se fera probablement au reaching, avant une première traversée de la Manche sur un bord en direction de Wolf Rock.

La navigation sous les côtes anglaises prendra l'allure d'une belle cavalcade au portant dans un vent de sud-ouest qui va se renforcer (25/30 nœuds) avec l'arrivée d'une dépression vendredi soir. La transmanche retour à partir de Fairway jusqu'à Antifer et le dernier tronçon vers Dieppe promettent d'être très sportifs. Bref, il y en aura pour tous les goûts et à toutes les allures, toutes les forces de vent, sans oublier le courant qu'il faudra prendre en compte le long des côtes bretonnes. Les premiers solitaires, attendus samedi soir sous les falaises de craie, arriveront exténués.

Quel que soit le scénario, il n'y aura pas le choix, « il faudra se saigner aux quatre veines » dit Yann Eliès. « Etre à fond, à fond, à fond » insiste Gildas Morvan. Or, que l'on soit en tête ou relégué plus loin au classement, l'attaque est encore la meilleure des solutions. Tout le monde veut arriver en Normandie la tête haute, sans rien avoir à regretter. Et pour cela, comme le dit Paul Meilhat, il faut tout de suite se mettre « en mode guerrier » pour affronter ce dernier combat.

Yann Eliès (Groupe Quéquiner-Leucémie Espoir) : 'Je veux arriver à Dieppe sans regretter quoi que ce soit. Ce sera deux jours de course. Ça vaut le coup de se saigner aux quatre veines pour tout donner et rien regretter. J'aurai tout le temps de pleurnicher après ou de rigoler. Parce que ça peut être ça aussi, ça peut être une belle histoire. Une histoire incroyable.'

Paul Meilhat (skipper Macif 2011) : 'L'escale a été longue, on a eu le temps de se reposer. La journée d'aujourd'hui sert à se reconcentrer sur la course, les parcours, le classement, retourner au bateau, finir nos sacs. Beaucoup de coureurs ne sont plus dans la course. Les discussions ne sont plus les mêmes qu'au départ. Moi, j'essaye de passer en mode guerrier pour la prochaine, surtout qu'il va y avoir du vent. Alors on met le casque et on y va. J'essaie de garder de l'énergie pour cette étape, je n'ai pas envie de penser à tout le reste. Je reste dans ma course et je me dis qu'il y a encore des coups à faire. Je veux vraiment bien faire sur cette étape.'

Julien Villion (Seixo Habitat) : 'Je suis bien reposé. Je sors de chez le kiné après une bonne nuit, je suis bien détendu. Je pense beaucoup à la façon dont je vais me comporter sur cette étape. J'ai envie de bien faire parce que c'est la dernière, ne pas avoir de regret pour la suite. C'est une motivation qui monte petit à petit. On croise des gens ici, on discute, on rigole, mais au fond de nos têtes, c'est l'étape qui est bien présente. Je veux mieux gérer ma course. Continuer à progresser, me montrer aux avant postes. Tout ça, c'est de l'expérience qui va m'aider à avoir un caractère plus fort, savoir qu'il y a toujours des solutions dans une course pour essayer de revenir, de continuer à se battre.'

Simon Troël (Les Recycleurs Bretons) : 'Je regarde la météo de l'étape, il y a un peu de vent, ça va être bien. Ce ne sera pas pire que ce qu'on a pris au début de la transat. Mais je n'ai pas dit que ce serait facile. J'aimerai gagner cette étape en bizuth, ça me ferait bien plaisir. Pour ça, je vais essayer de naviguer plus au contact. J'aimerai faire une belle étape pour garder un bon souvenir de cette Solitaire. J'espère que ça va mieux finir que ce que ça a commencé.'

Gildas Morvan (Cercle Vert) : 'Avec le nouveau parcours qui vient d'arriver pendant que je naviguais cet après-midi, il va falloir revoir tout ça, se remettre en configuration, car tous les phénomènes changent, les bords changent. Il va falloir retravailler ce soir, il y a encore du boulot. Mes bonnes résolutions pour cette 4e étape c'est : à fond, à fond, plus à fond.'
