Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship 2010 - Day 2

'Ernesto Rodriguez & Mary Hall of the USA lead the fleet - Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship'    Ives Spritzer
Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championships 2010 day 2 report.

Ernesto Rodriguez and Mary Hall of the US have made a statement after the second day of racing in Canada. With a 2-1-1, their finishes have vaulted them to the top of the leaderboard with a 12-point lead over their fellow Miami sailors Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke.

When asked about his day, Ernesto commented, 'It was pretty good actually. The first race we had a good start and rounded the first mark in 7 or eighth and played the right pretty good to pay off. I was a bit skeptical from the beginning, but it paid off. In the second race the breeze shifted to the left a bit with more pressure. We had a great start at the pin and gave us a good jump on the fleet and the pin was favored on top of that so we got 3-4 boat lengths right away. The last race was a bit of luck. We didn’t have the time and we thought we were over, so we went back and ducked the whole fleet and the starboard tack was not the way to go, but our luck paid off and we went toward the right and started getting headed 10 degrees and we tacked and crossed the fleet.'

Junichiro Shiraishi and Kogj Saito of Japan are in third and ISAF Youth World sailors Raul Rios and Marcos Teixidor of Puerto Rico in fourth. Current Snipe World champion Bruno Bethlem with Rodrigo Lins (BRA) round out the top 5.

Conditions for the day began at seven knots and increased to 12 with Lake Erie kicking up the chop and swell. Tomorrow's forecast is more of the same with a possible weather change on Friday.
