Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship 2010 - Final day's report.

Ernesto Rodriguez and Mary Hall of the US sailed the last race of the Championship and confirmed they are the true champions by winning the last race.

With a storm brewing, the wind was strong out of the south with 12-19 knots and good size swells. Alexandre Tinoco and Gabriel Borges of Brazil led the race today but Rodriguez and Hall passed them at the gybe mark and continued to the finish. This is Rodriguez’ first major international win in the Snipe having already secured the US National Championship.

Both second and third place also confirmed their overall places with Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke of the US second in the race and second overall and Bruno Bethlem and Rodrigo Lins of Brazil finishing third in the race and third overall.

Top junior competitor Raul Rios and Marcos Teixidor of Puerto Rico, who competed in the ISAF Youth Worlds, finished sixth overall. The top female team was the sister duo from Argentina, Trixy Agusti and YuYu Agusti who were also the second junior team and finished 18th overall.

The 40 boat fleet representing ten countries and four continents was highly competitive and also a country qualifier for the Pan Am Games to be held in Mexico in 2011. Rodriguez and Hall have also earned a berth with this win for the 2011 Snipe Worlds to be held in Rungsted, Denmark.
