Simrad announces new relationship with Chris-Craft

by Caitlyn Ridgley on 31 Oct 2014
Catalina 34 Chris-Craft .
Simrad Yachting has announced its new relationship with Chris-Craft. Under the terms of the agreement, dual Simrad NSO evo2 multi-touch, glass bridge navigation systems will be offered on the Catalina 34 model of Chris-Craft center console powerboats.

A revolutionary new design for Chris-Craft, the sleek Catalina 34 is the largest of the Catalina center console line and will incorporate the latest technology while maintaining the builder’s signature style. Powered by triple Mercury® Verado® outboard engines, the boat will include digital switching and Mercury VesselView® integration that delivers over 30 engine parameters, as well as view and control of features such as Smart Tow®, eco control and cruise control. As a result of joint efforts between several companies involved in the project, the flat-mount dash of the new Catalina 34 will employ 16-inch, multi-touch Simrad NSO evo2 displays at the helm station to control all systems. The vessel will also include Simrad GoFreeTM wireless connectivity, SonarHubTM sonar, satellite weather and the RS35 VHF with HS35 remote handheld.

The Simrad NSO evo2 brings together the quintessential elements of today’s premier marine electronics – high-power processing for lightning fast charting, sonar, radar and entertainment; stunning dual widescreen displays; a masterfully designed user interface for intuitive multi-touch control; and limitless compatibility for unrivaled integration. Setting a new standard in electronic navigation, the NSO evo2 delivers big-boat glass bridge style to mid-sized powerboats. The system features dual processors and video output that can drive the two screens completely independently. It effectively gives boaters two multifunction displays (MFDs) for the price of one.

'With a seamless fully integrated navigation system in line with triple Verado 300 HP engines, boat owners now have more confidence and reliability when long-range cruising — whether in the Abaco’s or the Northeast to Martha’s Vineyard or Block Island,' said Jeff Ellis, vice president of sales and marketing, Chris-Craft. 'The Catalina 34, equipped with Simrad’s fully integrated system, puts you at the forefront of marine technology.'

'Chris-Craft has long been renowned for its refinement and distinctive style,' said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. 'The Catalina 34 is the most revolutionary Chris-Craft center console, perfectly merging a timeless elegance with the latest cutting-edge technology. We are thrilled to have the NSO evo2 selected to be the navigation package of choice for its newest vessel, and we are confident that new owners will enjoy the way our displays complement the lines and overall function of the Catalina’s helm.'

Chris-Craft will hold a press conference revealing the Catalina 34 at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on Thursday, October 30th, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Bahia Mar Marina, GH Dock 12-16.
