Nelson's Dave Shaw has won the 2013 Paper Tiger Nationals in a very convincing style, winning six of the eight races sailed.
The Championship was sailed at Maretai, to the east of Auckland, and attracted a fleet of just under 50 of the 14ft singlehanded catamaran, designed by Ron Given in the late 1960's.
Fresh easterly winds again prevailed for the regatta, making for some great rides in the hard-chine, lightweight catamaran.
Going into the final day's racing, Shaw held a 12 point lead over the second and third boats who are tied on 17pts. Former Laser Masters world champion, Mark Orams was expected to make a move on the final day, but that did not eventuate when he finished in 28th place in the first race of the day.
Scott Pederson (Napier) finished second, with Ryan Leatham (New Plymouth) in third place. Orams was fourth overall, 32 points behind Shaw.
