Not a good day at the Sea Dubai RC 44 Gold Cup for the local team, a sixth, ninth and tenth place for Sea Dubai in what turned out to be good conditions with 10 -12 knots of wind after a wait for the breeze. There were three races including the long distance race with enough wind to make the starts a nail biting kind of experience from the spectators watching boats converging on the line at speed then taking off in different directions in a bid for clean air.

Ceeref had a better day and a great first race winning ahead of No Way Back and Artemis. Team Austria had a great second race taking the top mark in first place then dropping to third by the leeward mark after being caught by Katusha and Ceeref but after an exciting fight back they won the race.

The first race was alright for Sea Dubai but the runner in the second race broke so they couldn’t power up and spent the downwind leg fixing it. Then a disappointment in the long distance which took the fleet to the top of the Jumeirah Palm to turn in front of the iconic Atlantis Hotel and down to finish in the lagoon.

Sea Dubai were sitting well in fifth place and tacked next to Puerto Calero but were given a red flag as the judge deemed them too have tacked too close. The penalty forced Sea Dubai to do a 360-degree turn, which left them at the back of the fleet in an elegant but frustrating procession of spinnakers with first place going to No Way Back with Team Aqua following behind in second place.

The Gold Cup concludes tomorrow with four races to complete starting at 11:30
