Save the Children big benefactors of race

by Rachel Anning on 12 Jul 2005
Challenge Business today confirmed that it has broken its Global Challenge charity target for Save the Children before the race has even finished!

Save the Children has been the adopted charity of the Global Challenge since its inception in 1992 and so far a phenomenal amount of over £2.5 million has been raised for the charity.

Sir Chay Blyth commented, ‘this is absolutely fantastic news and we’re delighted to have raised another substantial amount for such a worthwhile charity.

‘As a global event the race is taken around the world which is where the monies raised will be used – internationally - to help the plight of thousands.

‘The money raised is thanks to the support of the crew, sponsors and race ports who have all got behind the charity so generously.’

Sarah Bateson, Save the Children's Head of Leadership & Events Development said, ‘we are absolutely thrilled and delighted at the fact that everyone involved in raising this fantastic total has worked so hard to achieve so much for children around the world and in the UK.’

More funds are expected to be raised at the finish port of Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth over the weekend of the 16/17th July.

HRH Princess Royal is Patron of the Global Challenge and President of Save the Children. Since the last race, funds raised have been used to support Save the Children’s long-term projects for health, education and poverty relief around the world, helping to create a brighter future for the next generation.
