At the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2011 not one, not two but four members of Skandia Team GBR joined a packed house for the opening ceremony.

Double Olympic gold medallist Sarah Gosling (nee Webb), Olympic champion and Team Volvo for life sailor Paul Goodison, Olympic medal hopeful Penny Clark and Paralympian and Team Volvo for life sailor Helen Lucas took to the stage to welcome visitors to this year’s show and sound the starter’s hooter to mark the show open.

Tracey Clarke from the BBC’s H20 show asked the sailors what they’d been up to in the past few months and their plans for the future.

Sarah commented that she has been busy being a mother, a tough job, but campaigning for the Olympics was definitely tougher. She mentioned that at the show she would be speaking on the main stage as well as trying to find her son his first dinghy!

Paul then explained that he was delighted to be at the show having flown in last night to be here. Today was one of only four days he’d been the in the UK this year as he has been busy getting back in shape and training in the Laser.

Running over the weekend of 5-6 March at Alexandra Palace, London, the show is an absolute must for any dinghy enthusiast or even if you want to find out more about getting started.

'We have over 200 exhibitors filling the halls with everything from boats, kit and gear and books to expert advice from clubs and class associations all under one roof' explained show manager Paul Bayliss from the RYA.

There’s plenty to see and hear all weekend on the Volvo Main Stage and at the interactive coaching sessions, where some of the best dinghy sailors in the world will be sharing their top tips and giving advice.

So if you have a passion for dinghy sailing or just want to find out more then head down to Alexandra Palace and enjoy the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2010, in association with Yachts & Yachting and Suzuki.

Tickets are available on the door and cost just £13.00 for adults and £7.00 for children on Saturday and children go free on Sunday.

All visitors to the show will receive a free show RYA website
