Sail Mooloolaba 2013 - Generous accommodation offers

by Tracey Johnstone on 15 Mar 2013
.
Sail Mooloolaba 2013 is being held from 22-30 June. Local accommodation venues are offering great deals for sailors visiting Mooloolaba during this year’s week-long celebration of sailing.

On offer is accommodation from caravan parks through to five-star, serviced apartments, many with stunning views of the race areas off Mooloolaba Beach.

Sailors can base themselves in one of the many serviced apartment building in Mooloolaba or enjoy the equally good accommodation places in Maroochydore and Alex Headland which are only a few minutes drive north of Mooloolaba.

But there is one catch. Since the regatta is being held during school holidays, it will be those sailors who book now who will secure the discounts on offer; leave it until the last minute and you will likely have to pay the full price.

This year's Sail Mooloolaba starts off on the weekend of 22-23 June with the Sports Boats and Trailable Yachts Winter Nationals, and the Monohull and Multihull regatta. Then the Radio Controlled Yachts have their chance to shine on the Mooloolah River in front of The Wharf on the Tuesday. There is a Fun open water race on the Wednesday afternoon. The racing heats up again on Thursday and Friday with the Schools Invitational Match Racing on the Mooloolah River. The final event, on the weekend of 29 and 30 June, is the Open Dinghy regatta on the open waters of Mooloolaba Bay.

In between the racing there will be plenty of on-shore fun for all ages so families and friends are encouraged to come along. Sail Mooloolaba website

Para World Sailing Championships – What a difference a day makes
Only the Open 2.4 Norlin OD, One Person Keelboat, managed to sail, and they completed one race in variable 5-16 knot The day had a bit of everything. There were grey skies, heavy showers and no breeze in the morning. Moving into the afternoon, a sudden sunny spell was coupled with a heavy breeze, gusting up to 25 knots. The breeze declined as the afternoon played out before dropping off completely and bringing another rain shower to put an end to the day.
