SORC's Solo Racing Festival takes place Saturday 6th March 2010

Solo Offshore Racing Club (SORC)

The fourth annual Solo Racing Festival will take place at the Solent University Conference Centre Saturday 6th March 2010.

The Festival has moved to a bigger venue in Southampton to accommodate the growing numbers of International Solo Racing enthusiasts attending this unique event.

Racing skippers of all levels, race organisers, yacht designers and builders are all welcome to the comfortable social setting at the Conference Centre.

The large auditorium and big screen will enhance the exciting presentations and delegates will be able relax between seminars in the adjoining suite and enjoy the hospitality provided at the venue.

The established format of race reports by skippers in all the major solo races such as Ostar2009, Mini Transat and Figaro Le Solitaire events continues.

The presentations will commence at 11am with Advanced Weather Routing by Mike Broughton of WinningWind.com. Mike is very well known as a race navigator and for his meteorology work with solo sailors. Mike helped both Dee Caffari and Mike Perham in their record circumnavigations.

Dee Caffari and Brian Thompson will also appear at the Solo Racing Festival. Dee and Brian are exceptional solo ocean racers, this time last year we were absorbed by their dramatic race to the line in the Vendee at Les Sables, they both finished on February 16th having raced neck and neck from Cape Horn.

Delegates to the Festival will be fascinated by Dee and Brians presentation on the finer points of racing the open 60's single-handed.

The Singlehanded Transatlantic race was won by the open 40 La Promesse in 17days 17 hours, skipper Jan Kees Lampe relates the story of his race and his record breaking time.

The ticket price includes coffee on arrival at registration and a buffet lunch Alternatively, reservations can be made by email to solofestival(at)offshoresolo.com
