2014 SMU-RM Western Circuit Sailing Regatta - The SMU SB20 International Cup will see some fierce competition from a strong field of competitors including former Olympians, World, Regional and National Champions from all corners of the World coming out to compete for what is the second edition of this trophy put forward by the Singapore Sailing Federation to further promote One Design keel-boat racing in Singapore.
Hot favorite will be Xu Yuan Zhen (two times Olympic sailor for Singapore) and his Ideals racing team, having won the inaugural SB20 Asia Pacific Championships in January this year against a very strong fleet of competitors. The chasing pack, hot on Xu's heels, includes teams like:
'Glasgow Kiss' defending champions sailed by Nils Razmilovic (Etchells European Champion), Jeremy Chase (SB20 National Champion) and David Salembier (SB20 National Champion).
Tara' sailed by Jervis Tilly, Nik Burfoot (Laser World Champion) and Joss Grace (former Olympian).
'Katana' sailed by Andy Richards (18ft Skiff European Champion), Agoston Sipos (Hungarian 49er National Champion) and two time Olympian and legend Joe Chan.
‘Pocapena’ sailed by top UK team racer Dominic Johnson and Werner sailed by German Olympic campaigner Johannes Barbenderende.
‘SSF charter boat’ sailed by the Singapore University Team, Justin Lui (420 Worlds Champion).
‘SSF charter boat’ sailed by the Singapore University Team (women), Denise Lim (Ranked 13th in the world – Match Racing women).
The fleet has been working up to this over the past few weeks as teams have been busy with preparations and training on-site. It is set to be an epic battle sailed on the western waters of the island during the fabulously organized SMU-RM Western Circuit Regatta run by the Singapore Management University and Raffles Marina.
