Beach cats, have made great strides in the past 20 years and have gained popularity world wide, yet San Francisco Bay has remained a tad bit of a black hole for the twin hull set. Cold water, adverse currents, large commercial traffic and a lack of user friendly, white sand beaches seemingly the primary culprits. Alameda’s Crowne Beach and Coyote Point have held several Hobie-Cat event in recent years, but the central bay has remained of limits.

Until now.

With the F-18’s now christened on SF Bay, the door swing wide open with opportunity. Rumblings of multi hulls such as formula 40’s being incorporated into possible AC related contests in the future, a massive invasion of cats in the Ditch Run , and record runs being documented with cats in many a local event, 2010 might be just remembered as the Year of the Cat

With a class dedicated to the F-18s along with a Weta and Corsair 24 class in the NOOD, lets take a slight closer look at these up and coming fun machines and some of the current builders under the F-18 rule
