Route des Princes - Un Tage théâtral!

Le décor est à vous couper le souffle. Des trimarans pattes levées devant une ville aux tons ocre et pastel, des dômes d'églises couleur craie, un long quai animé par un public curieux, voire bouche-bée. Le must : une ligne d'arrivée située à quelques mètres de la place du Commerce. Aujourd'hui sur le Tage, les multicoques ont fait leur show. Dans les rôles principaux, Edmond de Rothschild, Spindrift et Virbac-Paprec 70 se sont chacun offerts une victoires de manche.

Après une journée de repos bien méritée hier, les MOD70 ont repris du service ce jeudi. A 15 heures, les quatre multicoques se sont élancés pour trois courses in-shore à suivre. Trois manches particulièrement disputées puisqu’elles ont couronné trois vainqueurs différents : Edmond de Rothschild, Spindrift et Virbac-Paprec 70. C’est donc peu de dire qu’il y a eu du jeu, cet après-midi, sur le Tage. Et pour cause, les forts courants, les risées et les trous de vent liés notamment aux effets de site ont donné du fil à tordre aux équipages. Pas facile, dans ces conditions, de faire preuve de régularité. Ce soir, c’est finalement l’équipage de Sébastien Josse (1er, 3e et et 2e) qui pointe en tête du classement provisoire de l’in-shore Portugais. « Le plan d’eau n’est pas très facile. Il y a beaucoup de courant et du vent cisaillé.

De plus, la ligne de départ se trouve dans une zone un peu aléatoire. On a vu que ce n’était pas évident de bien partir à chaque fois, ni de faire les bonnes lay-lines. Aujourd’hui, il fallait vraiment être observateur et arriver à prendre des décisions un peu tardives. En tous les cas, ça a distribué beaucoup parce que chaque manche était vraiment différente. On est content d’être en tête ce soir d’autant qu’on voit que sur le bateau c’est fluide et qu’on est à l’aise. Maintenant, on relativise parce qu’on est devant avec deux points d’avance seulement. On a vu aujourd’hui qu’une place de dernier était vite arrivée alors on reste concentré» a commenté le skipper d’Edmond de Rothschild à son retour à terre. L’actuel leader au classement général Oman Air - Musandam a, pour sa part, alterné le bon et le moins bon avant de déchirer son gennaker au début du dernier bord de près de la dernière course. Il doit se contenter de la 4e place après cette première journée de régates mais demain, trois nouvelles manches sont au programme. Rien n’est donc joué!

Belle journée pour l’équipage d’Erwan Le Roux sur FenêtréA-Cardinal qui remporte haut la main les deux manches. Deux manches pour le plaisir, puisque rappelons-le, seuls les MOD 70 comptabilisent des points sur ce type de parcours. N’empêche, deux victoires même pour du beurre, ça vous revigore ! Gilles Lamiré et son équipage sur Rennes Métropole – Saint-Malo Agglomération commencent à prendre leurs marques sur ces courts parcours face à des concurrents déjà bien entraînés depuis Valence. L’occasion est idéale pour le skipper, qui a rejoint directement Lisbonne, de continuer à prendre en main sa monture.

La partie la plus large du fleuve (4 milles), face à la grande place du Commerce, celle ou les multicoques régatent, est appelée depuis la nuit des temps « la mer de paille ». « Il y a des siècles, il y avait beaucoup de trafic en amont du Tage. Les bateaux revenaient chargés de produits agricoles, notamment de paille pour les élevages autour de la ville. Bien souvent, avec le vent, la paille se retrouvait éparpillée sur l’eau. » explique Antonio, marin originaire de Lisbonne. Courant et banc de sable sont légion tout le long du Tage… Une navigation par endroit qui ne s’improvise pas. Depuis la dernière exposition universelle à Lisbonne en 1998, la ville a décidé d’utiliser le fleuve à bon escient. Docks réhabilités, nouveaux quartiers, fleuve propre qui voit même le retour des dauphins, nouveau port pour les paquebots à passagers, Lisbonne et son Tage se sont enfin retrouvés…

En raison d’une forte dépression annoncée sur le cap Finisterre lundi matin, le comité de course a pris la décision d’avancer le départ des Multi50 afin de leur éviter le plus gros du coup de vent. Arkema – Région Aquitaine, Actual, FenêtréA-Cardinal et Rennes Métropole – Saint-Malo Agglomération s’élanceront donc pour leur deuxième course off-shore (Lisbonne – Dublin) demain, à 15 heures. Les MOD70 et le Maxi80 les accompagneront lors du petit parcours de dégagement – un aller et retour de 8 milles entre la place du Commerce et le pont du 25 avril – avant d’entamer les trois courses in-shore de leur programme initial à 16 heures.
