Après une journée de repos bien méritée, hier, les marins de la Route des Princes ont repris du service ce vendredi, avec le début des épreuves in-shore de Plymouth. Si dans un premier temps, la Direction de course a envisagé de faire régater les multicoques à l'intérieur du brise-lames de la ville, les conditions météo les ont contraints à mouiller le parcours plus au large.

C'est ainsi dans un vent de nord-ouest soufflant entre 14-16 noeuds que les équipages se sont affrontés sur des parcours de type « banane » longs de 5 milles. Les MOD70 en ont, pour leur part, disputé trois tandis que les Multi50 en ont couru deux pour le « fun ». Mais chez les uns comme chez les autres, la bagarre a été âpre.

Déjà vainqueur des in-shore de Valence et de Lisbonne (les in-shore de Dublin – Dùn Laoghaire ayant été annulées), Edmond de Rothschild s'est une nouvelle fois montré très à l'aise sur ce type d'exercice ce vendredi, sur le plan d'eau de Plymouth. Sébastien Josse et ses hommes ont en effet réalisé la meilleure journée des MOD70 en remportant deux manches sur les trois disputées. Malgré un gennaker déchiré dans la deuxième course du jour, le bateau blanc et bleu prend donc un léger avantage, ce soir, sur Oman Air-Musandam avec lequel il se bagarre pour la première place de l'épreuve. Les hommes de Sidney Gavignet ont, pour leur part, alterné le bon et le moins bon cet après-midi, et devront mettre les bouchées doubles s'ils veulent conclure en beauté la dernière épreuve in-shore de la Route des Princes d'autant que Virbac – Paprec 70 n'a pas dit son dernier mot. L'équipage de Jean-Pierre Dick l'a prouvé aujourd'hui, il poursuit sa montée en puissance au fil des courses et c'est d'ailleurs avec une belle avance qu'il a remporté la manche n°2 ce vendredi. A suivre donc.

Deux superbes départs, une grosse envie d'attaquer, un équipage galvanisé par sa victoire dans le troisième offshore entre Dùn Laoghaire et Plymouth… le trimaran d'Erwan Le Roux s'est montré impérial sur les deux manches courues au milieu du Sound. Le trimaran bleu, blanc rouge s'est octroyé donc deux victoires, talonné par l'équipage de Lalou Roucayrol décidément très collant. Arkema-Région Aquitaine a d'ailleurs bien failli s'offrir la deuxième manche. Petite journée en revanche pour Actual, rappel individuel sur la deuxième manche, et Rennes Métropole – Saint Malo Agglomération, qui ne sont jamais parvenus à la hauteur de leurs adversaires.

Demain, après un ultime briefing météo programmé à 10h (heure française), les MOD70 et les Multi50 disputeront une course in-shore devant Plymouth, entre 12h15 et 13h50. Après un bref retour à terre, ils quitteront à nouveau la marina de Mount Batten pour s'aligner au départ de la quatrième et dernière course off-shore de la Route des Princes qui les mènera jusqu'à Roscoff, à 21 heures. Tous les bateaux mettront d'abord le cap à l'ouest pour aller virer Wolf Rock où sera attribué un point de bonus spécial (coefficient 2) au premier de chaque classe, puis la flotte se scindera en deux. Les 70 pieds et le Maxi80 Prince de Bretagne iront enrouler la Grande Basse de Portsall avant de rejoindre la baie de Morlaix, soit un total de 198 milles. Les 50 pieds, pour leur part, devront aller chercher la bouée d'Aman ar Ross située à proximité de l'île Vierge, avant de laisser la Pot de Fer à tribord et de se présenter sur la ligne d'arrivée devant Roscoff, soit un total de 186 milles.

Sébastien Josse - Edmond de Rothschild : 'C'est une super journée surtout qu'elle n'a pas été sans émotions. Sur la première manche, on s'en sort vraiment bien sur la fin contre Virbac-Paprec 70 et on déchire notre gennaker dans la deuxième course. On n'a pas pu faire le deuxième portant correctement. La troisième régate, par contre, tout s'est super bien passé. On est à l'aise pourtant aujourd'hui, ce n'était pas simple. Il n'y avait pas de systématique, il fallait vraiment être opportuniste. Le plan d'eau est très cisaillé et assez varié en intensité et en orientation mais Sébastien Col, mon tacticien à bord, s'en est très bien sorti. Il fallait aussi un peu de réussite. On espère continuer comme ça demain. On sait que tous les petits points pris maintenant seront du bonus pour la suite et qu'ils donnent un peu de confiance. On continue et on attend aussi la dernière étape avec impatience.'

Jean-Pierre Dick - Virbac – Paprec 70 : 'On a réalisé une belle journée. On a des raisons de regretter certaines choses. On a notamment dominé la première manche mais on ne termine que deuxième, c'est dommage. Dans la troisième course, on manque un peu de réussite. On est deuxième à la dernière bouée et on tombe dans une molle… Mais bon, on a fait de belles choses. On a en particulier pris de bons départs et ça, c'est un motif de satisfaction. Toute l'équipe s'est donnée pour passer une bonne journée. On est content, on a fait des bons coups. Pour demain, on est un point derrière Edmond de Rothschild et un point devant Oman Air-Musandam. Ca va être serré!'

Sidney Gavignet - Oman Air-Musandam : 'Les conditions ont changé au cours de la journée. On a fait pas mal de petites erreurs qui font des gros écarts au final. C'est un peu agaçant parce que je sens qu'on pourrait vraiment gagner un in-shore. On est rarement complètement dans le coup pour les bords. On paie un peu ça. On a quand même eu un peu de chance parce qu'il y a une manche où on s'est pris une pénalité parce que je suis passé trop près de Virbac-Paprec 70 qui était dessus mais que je n'avais pas vu. Malgré la pénalité, on arrive à le repasser. Dans notre malchance, on a eu un peu de réussite. Il reste encore une ou deux manches à courir demain. Même si on était derrière Sébastien Josse ce ne serait pas dramatique. Evidement, ce serait mieux d'être devant. Ce qui est dommage, c'est qu'il y a plein de fois où on passe la bouée en tête et on se fait rattraper ensuite. A l'inverse, Gitana passe dernier et se retrouve devant en bas. En tous les cas, il mérite son résultat. Tout le monde mérite son résultat'
