Round Britain 2012 – Air Race launched

Round Britain Ltd
The Air Race element of The Round Britain Race was launched at Aero Expo UK 2010, Wycombe Air Park. The response from the show was outstanding and very positive.

The feedback from all who spoke to us was that they would love to do an event like this with like-minded people. One comment that is worth recalling is 'RB12 could do for General Aviation what Red Bull did for Aerobatics'.

RB12 (Air) will be an extraordinary challenge for pilots who will join super car and powerboat enthusiasts in this unique event. Up to 50 aircraft will be able to compete against each other with pilots testing their navigational and flying skills against each other in a variety of tests.

The event is open for anyone interested in aviation, from aircraft owners to aircraft groups – PPL's to ATPL's. It is an event where you can take part and be part of it. Based on the Air racing rules and with the support of the Royal Aero Club – Records, Racing and Rally Association.

It will be first and foremost a race and the aspiration is for it to be a challenge for everyone. A multitude of challenges await the aircrews that are up for a challenge with like-minded aviators.

Stuart Mckean, RB12 Director commented, 'RB12 has got to be one of the greatest opportunities for the general aviation market. Having now attended the Aero Expo and talked to the potential competitors I can say it should be well supported by the GA community'.

As well as the positive response from the visitors RB12 has secured a media partnership with Pilot magazine. The plan is to showcase the event possibilities over the preceding years Dan Tye, the Deputy Editor of Pilot magazine says RB12 has the makings of an event that will truly capture the imagination of all types of pilots.

He added, 'Pilot magazine has always encouraged pilots to get more out of their flying so we're very pleased to support RB12. I’ve seen the proposed route and the concept is exciting, adventurous and challenging. We hope to publish content in the magazine that will help participants prepare to race.'
