The country’s oldest continually run regatta will celebrate its 160th edition this summer with a weekend of competition and camaraderie on Narragansett Bay. Hosted by the New York Yacht Club, the annual event this year precedes the biennial Newport Bermuda Race and serves as the first of three competitions to count in the venerable Onion Patch Series, which includes the Newport Bermuda Race. In addition to racing in the weekend series, all eligible yachts may also compete in Friday’s separately scored Around-the-Island Race. Entry is open to yachts with a minimum LOA of 25 feet in IRC, Classic, 12 Metre and One-Design classes as well as the recently introduced Cruiser-Racer and Double-handed divisions on 'navigator' courses.

When: July 12-19
Where: Newport, Rhode Island

This biennial race week – in its ninth running – has become a favorite of sailors because of its unique split format: Classics and Metre-boat racing on Saturday and Sunday (July 12-13) and Handicap and One-Design classes competing the following week from Wednesday to Saturday (July 16-19). Racing takes place on Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound, with social activities at New York Yacht Club’s Harbour Court clubhouse. This year, the event will serve as the inaugural HPR International Championship, the Swan 42 National Championship and the J/109 North American Championship.
