Australian's are renowned for betting on just about anything - including two flies on a wall, but not it seems on Sunfish One of the most famous gambling games, the famous Anzac Day tradition, which goes back to a 1798 convict gambling game, is Two-Up, where two coins are flipped in the air and the call is Heads or Tails. While Gambling on Yachting events has been legal in Australia for many years, our Kiwi cousins have taken it to a new level with Yachting New Zealand now to get a percentage of the NZ TAB book for betting on New Zealand racing. Nowdays the online betting sites are very popular and one of the 'Books' which is followed closely by sailors is the Sydney to Hobart Race. As of this morning, the www.SportingBet.com.au site had the following odds on the Rolex Sydney to Hobart line honours results. Wild Oats XI 1.20 Skandia 7.50 Ichi Ban 21.00 Black Jack 26.00 ASM Shockwave 5 29.00 ASM Brindabella 41.00 Loki 41.00 Limit (Reichel Pugh 62) 51.00 Pachamama: Swiss Top to Top 67.00 Quantum Racing 67.00 Yendys 67.00 There are all kind of side bets happening between the top contenders, Wild Oats XI vs The Field, Black Jack vs ASM Shockwave 5, Loki vs Limit, Quantum Racing vs Yendys but we note with interest that the 2.5 tonne Ocean Sunfish does not seem to be figuring. That is a bet on just how many of the big boats report they hit at Sunfish, on the way south during the 2008 Rolex Sydney Hobart Here at Sail-World, we figure that ASM Brindabella (retired 1993- Sunfish), ASM Shockwave (2002 - retired may have been a Sunfish) Wild Oats XI hit Sunfish 2005-2006 and Skandia hit Sunfish 2003,2004,2005,2006,2007 all have form. And there are more possibilities Blackjack is a new comer but has a forward canard and that could be a Sunfish attractant and the two new boats, Limit and Loki look like serious Sunfish chances too, We shall be watching with interest from the Derwent River from December 27th to see how the Sunfish score!
