Régates Royales - Trophée Panerai - Jürg Kaufmann exhibits in Cannes

For the past three years, the official poster of the Régates Royales – Trophée Panerai has been chosen through a competitive selection process. Painters and photographers from all over the world have submitted their pieces to a jury. This year, the Swiss photographer, Jürg Kaufmann, overturned the jury with a stunning “mast” shot. Once again this year, the regatta organisers have received many applications (more than 45) for the 2010 Régates Royales - Trophée Panerai official poster selection. Ten members of the selection jury studied all entries carefully and Jürg Kaufmann’s aerial shot received the most votes. “In the photograph sent by Jürg, we much appreciated the unusual position the shot from which the shot was taken. Indeed, we barely see full sail boats pictured from the top of the mast.” “It is a very modern and audacious shot for a sailing event, welcoming boats of all ages. The wooden mast and the large white sails are reminders of the classical spirit and the tradition of the event.” “While at the same time, a strong impression of power and grandness emanates from the picture. All the ingredients of the Régates Royales – Trophée Panerai are represented in this unique shot,” explained Jean-Paul Ortelli, Manager of the Régates Royales Company. “Once more, we wish to thank all the artists who submitted their pieces for the contest. Their talent is unquestionable and through their work, they keep the Régates Royales alive all year round. We hope to see them all next year for a new selection,” stated Jean-Claude Montesinos, the Cannes Yacht Club President. Jürg Kaufmann in a few words Born in Switzerland in 1968, Jürg Kaufmann has worked in photography for more than 10 years. His focus is yacht racing and travel reportage. He has covered the Olympic Games, offshore races such as the Volvo Ocean Race, Barcelona World Race, Ishares Cup, Louis Vuiton Pacific Series and many other world class events. Apart from photographing, Jürg also works on international sailing regattas as a sailor and as a match race umpire, where the ability to anticipate the manoeuvres of the boat is key. This skill helps him capture intense sailing moments with his camera. Sailing magazines, sailing teams, race organisers, private corporations and the Swiss Air Force are just a few of his clients. Travelling and shooting for many years in Asia and South America was the start of the passion for reportage photography. He spends time in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Singapore, Peru and Venezuela.
