Not only has there been a record set at this 20th King’s Cup Regatta for total entries - 101 - this year has also by a wide margin had the largest media turnout in the history of the regatta.
The record turnout for attending media, around 200 persons in total and another 40 international media online, are providing coverage around the world, making the overall event's success even more significant.
Interest from outside of Thailand has literally spanned the globe with journalists representing many countries from around the world including the UK, Gibraltar, Chile, Hong Kong, Australia, Italy, the US, China, Turkey, Singapore, Spain, Japan and Germany, .
Equally as exciting is this year's strong turnout of Thai journalists, nearly 70 media persons, who have come in numbers much higher than in previous years. There are a broad range of mainstream publications being represented at each days races. National television, radio, print and online media covering sport and lifestyle angles are also in attendance.
Bangkok-based public relations firm Vivaldi Seasons was brought on board the regatta this year to promote the event, working with the international press as well as putting a strong emphasis on working with the media in Thailand.
'We are really excited about working with the King's Cup Committee this year. Their passion for sailing has really helped us raise the levels of media attending the regatta.
'We've brought in Thai mainstream media like never before, increasing by around 100 percent from previous regattas by offering multi-lingual media releases and materials on a real time basis,' said Vivaldi Seasons CEO Joseph Henry.
CAT Telecom has delivered the communication systems and workstation terminals for the media centre in the Kata Beach Resort.
Rob Kothe from Sail-World.com, the international sailing news network, commented today, ‘CAT Telecom has done an outstanding job. Of all the regatta’s we’ve attended over the last year across North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific, the Phuket King’s Cup has had the fastest internet connectivity.
‘There are large numbers of media, offsite as well as onsite, and with availability for rapid uploading of high resolution images and IP Voice communications, the CAT Telecom system has helped the media deliver great coverage.’
The visual aspects of event websites are becoming increasingly important. The Kings Cup website event stories feature large images from two internationally known and respected yachting photographers, Rick Tomlinson and Guy Nowell from Hong Kong. As well as a public image gallery, the online media centre has a sophisticated high resolution image gallery for media use. Sail-World.com's parent company TetraMedia provided the King's Cup website.
Nigel J Cornick, CEO of Principal Sponsor Raimon Land, commented, 'It’s great to see the event getting the media recognition it deserves. We have supported the event in a big way for a number of years and will continue to do so. The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is a perfect fit with our lifestyle property developments and is good for Phuket, sailing and Thailand as a whole.'
