Raymond Simonds wins Illusion Fleet Racing
by Barnaby Edwards on 29 Jan 2008
Bembridge Harbour was a sun-soaked playground last weekend, hosting fun and games for twenty Illusionists at Bembridge Sailing Club.
Raymond Simonds was the first kid on the block, winning the opening race, but young Piers Thomas was top trump for the following two flights. Justin Biddle 'podiumed' in all three rounds but never managed to climb to the top step. Sue Farquhar showed the boys a thing or two by finishing third in a race.
Sunday was equally playful; the lighter, shiftier wind kept the kids guessing. Raymond was the most consistent winner with Rupert Holmes, Piers and Justin taking turns at being in 'the cool gang'.
As ever, the lower pecking-order was full of peer group pressure. Barnaby Edwards, Jo Downer, Andrew Christie and Philip Woodford seemed to criss-cross each other on every leg as if in some elaborate game of aquatic hop-scotch.
The faultless solo efforts by Mark Downer as race officer were appreciated by all. A Perfect weekend.
Illusion - Final Leading Results:
1 Raymond Simonds
2 Piers Thomas
3 Justin Biddle
4 Rupert Holmes
5 Rudi Jurg
6 Sue Farquhar
