Rainier Cup Regatta 2011 recap and results

Rainier Cup 2011 NWICSA
Rainier Cup Regatta 2011 was held in Cascade Locks Marine Park, Oregon during April 16th-17th.

Saturday:
Racing got underway shortly after 1030 in a building west wind. Cool temps and frequent rain showers made their way across the race course all day. Shifty winds from 8-16knts kept sailors on their toes and a strong current meant many OCS's hailed at the start line. Thanks to technical support from Greg Wilkinson and Dayan Paez, race committee was able to score races live on the water using only a smart phone. 6A and 6B races were sailed before racing was called for the day. One protest was filed resulting in a DSQ.

Sunday:
Sailors arrived to brisk temps, clear skies and a fresh breeze. Winds quickly built to 12-14knts with afternoon puffs in the high teens/low twenties. Sunday's breeze brought 30 degree oscillations and steep chop. 4A and 4B races were sailed before the 3pm cut-off time. Courses were modified windward-leewards.

A special thanks to all the volunteers that helped with race committee this weekend; Dave Patterson, Andrew Nelson, Chris Brown, Jess Frazier, Jay McRostie and Jack Thomas. Thanks to Steve Williams, Andrew Nelson and Chris Brown for hearing protests and to Zip 2 Water for the clean, filtered drinking water.

Congrats to the University of Washington, this year's Rainier Cup Full NWICSA website

America's Cup - Scary video from today's collision between GBR and JPN
LRBAR's hull not been stopped by SBTJ's windward foil there would have been serious injuries aboard the Japanese boat. All I can say is that had LRBAR's hull not been stopped by SBTJ's windward foil there would have been serious injuries aboard the Japanese boat. Moreover, notwithstanding the damage done to Land Rover BAR's boat, there must be considerable damage to the dagger-foil case of SBTJ. Considerable.

Thrilling races during tropical 33rd Delta Lloyd Regatta
The organisation was testing new formats for 49er, 49erFX and RS:X. It was a great success and made the finals exciting Medemblik welcomed a lot of talent, including those preparing for World Championships and World Cups, and some starting new Olympic campaigns. There were also many Olympic Rio sailors who’ve just started their season again.

Onboard Phaedo^3's Transpacific Course World Record run across Pacific
The past few years we have had a good share of success with at least one wrong turn in our racing program. When Brian Thompson and I were planning the Phaedo3 program we had a wish list of races and records which would be nice to attempt if we had a MOD70.
