RYA Winter Match Racing Series to run across four weekends

'RYA Winter Match Racing'    RYA
After the success of last year’s inaugural programme, the RYA Winter Match Racing Series will once again run across four weekends at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy this winter.

The four weekends are open to Youth, Women’s and University teams and will be run as part-competition and part-training with RYA qualified coaches and a full umpire team on hand at all four events.

The weekends will be run using the RYA’s fleet of six Elliott 6m boats. Eight teams will be invited for each weekend where accommodation and food will be arranged at RYA Portland House for all those taking part. Evening training sessions will also take place and will include umpire session, talks from professional sailors as well as contributions from marine industry experts.

The cost per person including two nights’ accommodation and food will be £120. Teams can consist of three or four sailors weighing no more than 250kgs in total. All skippers and crew must be aged 16 or over on the first day of the event. If you wish to attend but do not have a full team, please contact the RYA event organisers who will endeavour to make up a full team.

David Campbell James, Winter Match Racing Event Director and Chairman of RYA Match Racing, commented: 'Last year’s RYA Winter Match Racing programme was a huge success and we are delighted to be able to offer the same programme for a second year running. We are working hard to get more teams involved and are targeting the new ISAF World Youth Match Racing Championship to be held in Helsinki, Finland and the World University Match Racing Championships to be held at Lake Ledro, Italy for 2014.'

The 2013-14 RYA Winter Match Racing Series will take place across the following dates:

Weekend 1- 6/7/8 December 2013

Weekend 2 – 10/11/12 January 2014
