Sail or power, owner or charterer, the RYA Spring Power and Sail Muster has something for everyone.

Held at Cowes Yacht Haven, Isle of Wight 23-25 April, the RYA’s Spring Power and Sail Muster is the perfect opportunity for boaters to get together and brush up on vital safety and boating skills before the summer cruising season kicks in and there are still places available for you to take part.

Designed for sailors and motor boaters alike, the weekend event boasts a packed agenda incorporating boating master classes, boat handling and taster sessions, as well as expert presentations and skill building activities. You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with industry experts about any issues you may have on your own boat on a one-to-one basis throughout the weekend.

New for the 2010 line up is the Ocean Safety ‘Caring for your Lifejacket’ session, during which you will learn how to service your lifejackets yourself. The session will cover maintenance, re-arming and re-packing. This is a pre-bookable event and one definitely not to be missed, but don’t forget to bring your lifejacket!

Another first for the Spring Muster will be RNLI ‘Tow or be towed’ demonstration; during which you’ll see how to rig a tow line both to tow another vessel and on the vessel receiving the tow.

You’ll also get the opportunity to make the most of some of the Muster’s ever popular master classes and presentations including:

· Rig checks and whipping and splicing techniques with Force 4 Chandlery

· VHF radio advice and DSC operation with ICOM

· Practical on water AIS and radar practice with Mendez Marine

· Safety equipment checks with Ocean Safety

· Electronic navigation guidance from Raymarine

· Fault finding and get you home tips from Sea Start

· Liferaft, lifejacket, abandoning ship and sea survival interactive lecture with Ocean Safety and the RNLI

· Man overboard demo from Ocean Safety

Sealine Sea School and Hamble School of Yachting once again provide boats for the practical boat handling sessions and skills master classes under the watchful eyes of professional RYA instructors. Alongside picking up tips to improve your skills, you’ll have the opportunity to swap sail for power or power for sail and try out how the other half take to the water.

Alongside the practical elements of the muster there’s a great social side too. On Friday evening there is a drinks reception at Cowes Yacht Haven and The Royal London Yacht Club plays host to the Saturday evening drinks reception, which includes hot buffet, disco and a prize draw with top prizes up for grabs thanks to the muster’s sponsors.

So book your place now and be part of the Muster weekend. Contact the RYA Cruising Team to book your place - you don’t even need to come in a boat to take advantage of all that’s on offer! Email cruising.events(at)rya.org.uk or call 0844 556 9517 or 02380 604 233.
