The RS100 European Championship has now come to a close.
Following a week of glorious sailing at Riva Del Garda, the gladiators that completed the week were as tired as they were happy. There were varying conditions throughout the week that tested every competitor's mind, body and tanning potential to the max.
With three great parties throughout the week the fleet enjoyed some cracking socials. Pizza night, Pasta night and the Thursday big party made it a great social affair too. With the sailors reliving the battles of the day and Paul Childs giving all of his tips to Gregg. A decision that he regretted the next day as Gregg Nailed two bullets.
Friday dawned with big hangovers and the sailors being a little dusty after Thursdays big party night. The breeze was up at about 18kts and the startline was packed with everyone fighting for the boat. Childs won the boat and then tacked early to miss his toestraps and capsize on the committee boat, giving everyone a substantial head-start. Booth sent it off the line with his 'special tips' learnt from the night before and pulled a big lead; leading from start to finish. Harrison was second, with Holroyd third. Soaking mode was beneficial downwind and Childs gained closing to third. The final beat saw Childs come through to second and Holroyd to third.
The final race... Who knows what happened. Chris O'Neill stepped into the boat and won the start smashing the committee boat and bouncing all of his weight, to little effect upwind with his 75kgs not enough.
Gregg yet again showed his hand early creaming off the startline with an abundance of pace, Holroyd followed putting the pressure on. Michael Rotach put all of his effort into the final race determined to take a great end to the event, which he did taking a strong third with Holroyd second and Booth first taking two points from the day.
