Peter Harburg’s Reichel Pugh 66 Black Jack this afternoon led the 48 boat Brisbane to Gladstone fleet north out of Moreton Bay.
As Black Jack approached Spitfire Banks, at the top of Moreton Bay, the wind had swung to the northeast and she was under headsail.
She was two miles ahead of Ray Roberts Cookson 50 Quantum Racing, with Graeme Wood’s TP52 Wot Now three hundred metres back. Rob Hannah’s Shogun, the fixed keel Cookson 50 the former Living Doll, was next.
Off the start line Mark Bradford wound Black Jack through the fleet to be just ahead of Quantum Racing at the turning mark. Tactician Stephen McConaghy took Quantum Racing deep off the start line and with less gybes she was well placed.
Black Jack has now begun to clear away from the fleet as she heads for Caloundra.
