The closing date for entries to this year’s Spirit Marine Queensland Beneteau Cup and French Yacht Challenge is fast approaching.
While late entries are often accepted, it’s always a good idea for boat owners to help out the event organisers by getting their entry in prior to the closing date.
The event is being organised by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and held on Moreton Bay on the weekend of 26th and 27th October 2013. It is open to all French production yachts.
The entry numbers to date indicate this year’s event will be another hotly contested affair. Of the 18 entries received so far, there are the usual players who come back each year as they know the will be having fun both on and off the water. Then there are a few new entrants yet to experience the fun of the tri-colour competition.
The Sailing Instructions will be available by the 16th October.
Event manager Jane Virtue is enthusiastic about encouraging cruising boats to also join in the passage race format weekend. 'For those in the Cruising Division who have not done much or any racing before, we would be happy to answer any questions and help wherever possible.
'Some of the fleet might not think so, but really once across the starting line, just treat it like any other cruise, but just aim to sail as fast as you can.
'We have some great sponsors this year, so there is a chance to win sail repairs, boating gear or vouchers. If you are about to reinsure your yacht or are looking for an insurer, Nautilus Marine is donating a limited number of $200 discount voucher on your next account,' Virtue said.
Skippers wanting crew or crew looking for a place on a competing yacht can contact Jane Virtue on jane.virtue@bigpond.com.
This year’s Queensland Beneteau Cup and French Yacht Challenge is sponsored by Spirit Marine, Nautilus Marine, Doyle Sails, Boating and RV, MostlyUnderWater, boatstyle, Hood Sails, JSA Marine, Muir Marine, The Hatchman and Quantum Sails.
