The 72nd start of the iconic blue water classic had 300,000 spectators lining the foreshores of Sydney Harbour, another two million watching on TV, and the constant buzz and whir of media helicopters overhead. 88 boats, from Australia, USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Japan, Korea, China, oh and New Zealand, had lined up on three start lines.

Trophies and honors bestowed at CYC Race to Mackinac Awards Dinner
At the 2011 CYC Race to Mackinac Awards Dinner, a sell-out crowd of close to four-hundred turned out.
At the 2011 Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Awards Dinner, a sell-out crowd of close to four-hundred sailors, guests, and other sailing community members turned out to honor fellow sailors. The evening’s theme was ‘A Celebration of Our Community’ with the Dinner taking place on the 5th November in the Crystal Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

US Sailing has awarded the Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal to the crew of Sociable in Portsmouth, Rhode Island for their rescue of six sailors from the yacht WingNuts which capsized on Lake Michigan in the midst of a storm during the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac on the night of July 17-18, 2011.

US Sailing releases independent study concerning CYC Race to Mackinac
US Sailing has published findings related to two deaths during the 103rd Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac.
US Sailing, the national governing body for sailing, has published findings related to two deaths which occurred during the 103rd Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. The findings were contained in a detailed 70-page report authored by an independent panel, and are posted www.ussailing.org!online!new.

First Goat wins 2011 Chicago-Mackinac Trophy Division
In fact the 80 year old sailor this year sailed in his record 64th Chicago Mackinac race.
Three classic Great Lakes 70’s John Nedeau's Windancer, Lance Smotherman's Details and Bill Martin's Stripes swept the podium in the Turbo class of the 103rd running of the Chicago Yacht Club's Race to Mackinac presented by Veuve Clicquot. John Nedeau is the granddaddy of the Old Goats Society, in fact the 80 year old sailor this year sailed in his record 64th Chicago Mackinac race.
